ARLAN PUBLIC LECTURE

Animal Law Talk: An Indian perspective

raj_photoOn Tuesday 3rd June Raj Panjwani, one of India’s foremost animal law specialists, will present a public lecture on the status of animal protection in India, addressing some of the big issues facing legal advocates in that part of the world.
Drawing on more than twenty-five years of experience and his work as Legal Counsel for India’s peak environmental and animal protection organisations, Mr Panjwani will discuss his first-hand experience as a voice for wild and domesticated animals used in entertainment, food production, scientific and teaching purposes and hunting. He will also examine the implications of the global expansion of agribusiness for India’s farm animals.

The aim of Mr Panjwani’s presentation will be to provide his audience with an in-depth account of the status of the animal law movement in India, its achievements and the challenges that lie ahead. Mr Panjwani will also demonstrate that animal law crosses jurisdictional boundaries and that New Zealand animal lawyers have much to learn from their international colleagues.
This lecture is part of an Australasian Lecture Series sponsored by Voiceless: The Fund for Animals. ARLAN would like to extent its thanks to Voiceless for their assistance in funding this lecture and to the Faculty of Law for hosting this event.
